Music as Medicine: an immersion in the art and craft of playing sacred music

with River Guerguerian, Jeff Firewalker & Caroline Padgett

With every moment there is a song, a pulse and a rhythm. Since time immemorial native healing traditions have employed song, drumming and toning to affect transformation. During this weekend immersion you will find new inspiration and skills in using sound as a healing tool. With over 75 years of combined experience, Caroline, River and Jeff will guide participants through the key components of making sacred sound.

Friday 3/2, 6-10PM (5PM-530PM arrival)

Introduction: the instrument as an extension of self, $45

Saturday 3/3, all day (9AM arrival)

Finding the song: deep listening, connecting to nature & spirit, $140

Sunday 3/4, all day (9AM arrival)

Andean healing & sound ceremony

Friday

  • Ceremonial opening with sound transmission
  • Introduction – context, the weekend, music/rhythm as an essential element of healing and ceremony
  • Facilitated Centering exercise
  • Experiential exercise: Finding the Pulse and rhythm
  • Experiential exercise: Finding Tone and/or melody
  • Experiential exercise: “being sung” vs singing
  • Ceremonial closing
  • Optional Sound/song sharing at campfire, weather permitted

Saturday

AM

  • Ceremonial opening with sound transmission
  • Overview of the day
  • Deeper Experiential exercise: Finding the Pulse and rhythm, work with drums, rattles, percussion
  • Deeper experiential exercise: Sound and consciousness
  • Becoming a channel for archetypal energies and sound
  • Teachings on vibrational nature of the universe
  • Deeper experiential exercise: Sound and healing
  • Cleansing with sound

lunch

PM

  • Pulling sound from instruments and using them as healing tools
  • Further teachings on on sound healing
  • Deeper experiential exercise – sound healing practice breakout groups
  • Teaching on how to structure ceremonial and sound healing events
  • Deeper Experiential exercise: Finding Tone and/or melody
  • Teaching/sharing on sound and the hyerophant
  • Deeper Experiential exercise: “being sung” vs singing

EVENING

  • Making music – different approaches, healing, ceremony and prayer
  • Optional Sound/song sharing at campfire, weather permitted

Sunday

  • We will together experience and share the healing power of sound, rhythm and music in a traditional Peruvian Grandfather healing circle.

 

WHAT TO BRING

  • Tonal musical Instrument(s), drums and rattles
  • Seating – back support recommended for those staying the whole weekend
  • Sacred object to place on collective altar (optional)
  • Layered clothing, warm socks
  • Camp chair for camp fire (optional)
  • Water bottle, thermal mug (teas provided)
  • Packed lunch for those attending Saturday’s event
  • Notebook, writing implement(s)
  • Sacred offerings like tobacco and cornmeal for the land (optional)

A limited number of rooms are available on-site at for a reasonable fee.

Camping (indoor, outdoor) is free.
